16 Rooms, Fine and Casual Dining, Worth The Trip from Anywhere!
Situated on a grassy slope on the edge of historic Big Moose Lake, the Big Moose Inn and Restaurant brings over 100 years of providing wonderful lodging and dining experiences to our Adirondack visitors. Our lodging options are diverse, each of our sixteen rooms is unique and can be seen on-line. Many of our rooms offer exquisite vies of the lake and we have connecting rooms for families.
There are some exciting new changes at The Big Moose this season. Brian Mattison, a native of New Hartford NY, has come on board as Innkeeper. Brian brings his culinary and management talents to the North Country. Most recently Brian has been in the restaurant business with his brother Paul in Sarasota, Florida. During his 30 year career in the business he has served as Executive Chef as well as managing franchised restaurants. Brian, an avid outdoorsman who once hiked the Shenandoah Trail for five straight days, has relocated to Big Moose. Sue Ellen Mathers, who took over management of the Inn last summer, will continue in that capacity and, together, they plan on bringing this historic landmark to a new level of quality and comfort.
The dining room is now open Thursday - Sunday as is the Tavern. After Memorial Day weekend the dining room will be open from 5PM - 9PM Monday through Saturday and from 4:00PM - 8:00PM on Sundays. Click to view our fine dining menu. The Tavern menu is available Friday, Saturday and Sunday from noon until 9:00PM. Watch for exciting new menus from Brian Mattison!
Each season we offer specials that combine lodging, dining and various area activities. Be sure and read about the Special Packages before booking. If a special event is in your future, consider The Big Moose Inn as the perfect place to host the occasion. We take care of all the details catering to your particular interests whether it be fishing, boating, hiking, biking or taking in many of the area's cultural sites. Your visit to the Big Moose Inn will immerse you in the true heart of Adirondack life any season of the year. The Inn is part of the colorful history of the Adirondack Mountains and the Big Moose Lake in particular has a very intriguing history, being the site of the famous "Murder in the Adirondacks".
The area is renown for abundant wildlife including bear, deer, wild turkeys, coyotes and moose - which are making their way back to the area. The lake is home to loons and it is common to see eagles soaring about. We supply our guests with canoes and kayaks in which to enjoy peaceful morning or evening glides along the lake.
There are regular events scheduled both at the Inn and at surrounding venues. Be sure and check out the calendar of events for both Inlet, New York, just a few miles to the north on 28 and Old Forge, to our south. Our links page will provide you with plenty of information on area activities. If you find something in particular you are interested in, feel free to ask us about putting together a package deal just for your party, we'd be happy to do that.
We are proud of the Inn's great reputation for wonderful hospitality and great food. It is our sole purpose to make sure our guests have a most enjoyable time while staying with us and our many letters from happy travelers are a most gratifying testimony to our success.
We look forward to welcoming you to the Big Moose Inn & Restaurant!
